Follow the steps of this tutorial to add a brilliant shine effect to your text.








Step 1

Let’s create a new file (File>New) that would have 1024×768 px and 72 dpi. Next select the Paint Bucket Tool (G) and give the new file black color.

Step 2

Apply on the made layer the next parameters: Filter>Noise>Add Noise

Make a copy of the last made layer, using for it these shown parameters: Blending mode-Color Dodge


Step 3

Merge Down layers by pressing the Ctrl button for marking the appropriate layers and press then CTRL+E. Make a click on the same layer on Add a Mask option that may be found on the lowest part of the layers’ panel. After that we should use the Brush Tool (B) with Opacity of 30% and black color to clean out the below demonstrated zones on the picture.



Take the Rectangle Tool (U) to give our picture a kind of surface


Use the next parameters on this layer by making a mouse click on the processed layer on the layers’ panel: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Step 4

It’s time to write a word for the picture: “SHINE”, keeping the demands for the inscription from the table below:



Make a copy of this recently made layer and select Free Transform option to turn over the copy, placing it as it is indicated below:


Make a mouse click on Add a Mask selection on the layers’ panel and select the Brush Tool (B) and Opacity of 10% and black color to clean out a little the word in reflection.


Step 5

Create a new layer and use again the Brush Tool (B) and Opacity of 10%, this time of white color, for representing on the picture the luminescent upper parts of the letters.


We can also use the Pen Tool (P) of white color to represent several shining rays, which shapes may be corrected with the Convert Point Tool.


Make a copy of the last made layer and select the Free Transform option to turn around the copy on 90 degrees.





Getting a better result it’s possible when combine the rays’ layers in a single group (press Ctrl option for accentuating the corresponding layers and then keep pressed the left mouse’s button for moving the marked layers on Create a new group selection). Use the next indicated parameters for the new group: Opacity 30%



Make three copies of the new made group, placing the copies as below:


Step 6

Applying the same method for representing the rays for the letters, it’s possible to represent one more ray of white color with the same Pen Tool (P). The new element’s shape may be corrected with the Convert Point Tool.


Make two copies of the last made layer and select Free Transform option to place the copies the same way shown next picture:


Merge Down all three layers containing the white rays (pres Ctrl button to mark out the necessary layers and press CTRL+E options). Select for the new layer this option: Filter>Blur>Motion Blur



Select one more option for the same layer: Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur



Step 7

Use the Pen Tool (P) and Convert Point Tool to draw that part on the ray that would be more voluminous.


The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay



Make two copies of the last made layer and select Free Transform option to situate the copies above those two rays.
